NANJING

Our travels through China began with a 3 hour train ride from Suzhou to Nanjing (the capital city of Jiangsu Province). Nanjing is an old city with a ton of history. We saw atleast 10 sites: The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Museum, The Nanjing Museum, the old city walls (where we got engaged), Sun Yatsen's Mausoleum, The Linggu Temple, a medieval shipyard, the Yangtze River Bridge, the Brocade Museum, the Purple Mountain observatory, a Ming tomb and we also went golfing at White Horse park.

Because it is close to chinese New Year, everyone has busted out the red decorations. Even McDonalds is in on the fun. "red apple pie, makes decoration in the sky."

At the Nanjing Museum we found interesting bird-angels from a civilation that no longer exists and was unheard of until very recently.

On the Zhongshan Gate of the old Ming City wall we got engaged.

Sun Yatsen is the father of modern Chinese political thinking. Ironically he collected money from foreign Chinese to support the Chinese Revolution against the emperors---meaning: it was western democracy's money which partly funded the Chinese revolution.

All in all, Nanjing is a great place to learn about Chinese history and has a much more hisotric feel than even the Nation's capital of Beijing.
